Today the children in the Home Class have been making some neat trick-or-treat bags ready for Halloween.

The bags were decorated with pieces of orange, yellow and green paper. These colours represent the colours of real pumpkins. Finally a jack-o’-lantern design was added to the side of the bag. Two triangular eyes and a jagged mouth.

The children were really pleased to complete their trick-or-treat bags, and I guess they will really want to use them to put some candies inside.

At Halloween, it is famous for making jack-o’-lanterns. These are usually produced by scooping out and carving large pumpkins. Traditionally, other types of vegetables were used, such as turnips.

When I was a child, my friend and I could not find any pumpkins for sale in the local shops. So, we purchased a swede instead. It was quite small compared to a pumpkin, and was very difficult to carve out. We needed to borrow some of my grandfather’s woodwork tools to get it finished. Even though it was hard to make, we were still proud to have carved a real vegetable.

Will you be carving a real pumpkin this Halloween, or will you buy a plastic replica at the store?

（今日ホームクラスのお友達がハロウィーンバッグを制作しました。

オレンジや黄、緑の画用紙で飾られ、かぼちゃの様子を表現していました。

最後にとんがり目とギザギザの口でおばけかぼちゃのデザインにしました。

子どもたちはとても楽しんでいて、ハロウィーンの日にはそこにキャンディーなどをいれたがっていると思います。

ハロウィーンではおばけかぼちゃを作ることで有名です。よく大きなかぼちゃの中身をすくってだし、削って作ります。

昔ながらの方法ではカブなどの野菜が使われます。

私が子どものころ、地元のお店でまったくかぼちゃを見つけられなかったので、ルタバガ（ヨーロッパで売られている根菜です）を代わりに買いました。かぼちゃに比べてとても小さく、顔を削ることがとても難しかったのでおじいちゃんの工具を借りてなんとか完成させました。とても難しかったですが、本当の野菜でやり切ったことで、とても誇らしく感じました。

みんなは本当のおばけかぼちゃを作る予定ですか？それとも売っているものを買う予定ですか？
