Dig, dig, dig….. pull, pull….. dig, dig, dig……!!

All the students of Ishida Kindergarten have been digging for sweet potatoes at a nearby farm.

We traveled out to the farm on our school buses. For some of the pupils this was their first time to ride one of the school buses.

The children lined up in the field along the rows of growing sweet potatoes. They then used shovels to dig the soil away, as well as their hands to pull them out. It was very exciting as the purple colour of the vegetables appeared within the brown soil. Most students pulled out many sweet potatoes of all sizes – some were long and thin, some were small, but some were really a good size. They soon filled their bags, and found that they weighed quite a lot as they carried them away.

Afterwards we ate our lunches on mats in a grass field located slightly higher up the hill. It was quite hot and sunny weather today! They all had nice o-bento boxes which they had taken from their homes.

Finally we could all go for a walk around the farm. This enabled us to see other plants being grow and other aspects of local nature. We saw many dragonflies flying about, and pink cosmos flowers in another field.

By the time we arrived back at the parked buses, many of the children were feeling tired from all of the digging, walking, and carrying that they had done. Some even started to fall asleep on the bus back to the school!

Luckily they could take the sweet potatoes home after school finished. How will you cook yours? Bake them, steam them, fry them, eat them in rice, or with miso soup?? The choice is yours!!

石田幼稚園のお友達全員で近くの農園においもほり遠足に行きました。

園バスで移動したのですが、中には園バスに初めて乗るお友達もいました。

おいもの畝の前に並び、シャベルや手を使っておいもを掘りました。

土の中から紫色の野菜が出てくる様子を見るのはとても楽しかったです。

長かったり、細かったり、小さかったりといろいろなサイズのおいもがありましたが、とても大きなおいももありました。

すぐに袋もいっぱいになり、、子どもたちは重くなった袋にびっくりしていました。

そのあと、少し高い丘の上でござを広げてお弁当を食べました。

今日はとっても暑かった！子どもたちはおいしそうなお弁当を持ってきていましたよ。

最後に農園の周りを散策しました。その自然の植物などを見ることができました。

たくさんのトンボやピンク色のコスモスなどがありました。

バスが停まっている場所に戻る頃には、子どもたちは掘ったり歩いたり運んだりで少し疲れていたようで、帰りのバスではうとうとと眠ってしまう子どももいました。

嬉しいことに子どもたちはお家においもを持ち帰ります。
