The Rabbit class has been very lucky to a have a special guest. Eriko-sensei is a college student who is studying in Kyoto. She studies early childhood education and has been spending some time here in Ishida. She spent a number of days in a few of the classrooms. For the past three days, she observed classes in the Rabbit course. Of course she did not just observe the lessons, but participated in teaching. She helped out a lot, and took detailed notes as she worked.

In English, we call this work-study or a “hands-on” way of learning. Eriko-sensei was able to experience the inside of a kindergarten and see what being a teacher is like. I’m especially glad she was able to experience the international course. Teaching a foreign language has special challenges.

She did a great job with this! The students could practice asking her questions and I can tell this helped them understand better. We also made a number of crafts including painting and origami for the first time. Eriko-sensei even read the class a book in English.

At first the boys were shy upon meeting her, but in the end were very comfortable. The boys were very appreciative, saying “thank you!” and giving hugs as they said goodbye. This was so heart-warming for me to see. Luckily for us, Eriko-sensei will be back again in October. Good luck with your studies, I think you will be a great teacher.

（なんとラビット組にスペシャルゲストが来てくれました。京都で勉強をしている実習生のえりこ先生です。

先生は幼児教育を学んでいて石田幼稚園で少しの間学んでいます。この数日を各クラスで過ごしていて，ラビット組でもこの３日実習しました。もちろんただ見学しているだけでなく，しっかり保育にも参加していて，援助をしてくれたりたくさんのメモを取ったりしていました。

英語では，このような実習を「ワークスタディ」や「ハンズオン」と言います。えりこ先生は幼稚園の中身を経験することができ，先生とはどのようなものか知ることが出来ました。私は特に彼女がインターナショナルコースを経験できたことを嬉しく思います。外国語を教えることは特別なチャレンジだったでしょう。

先生はとてもよくできました。子どもたちは先生に質問をする練習ができ，そのおかげでより理解を深めたと思います。私たちは折り紙や絵画を含むいくつかの活動も行い，えりこ先生は英語の絵本も読んでくれました。

初めは男の子たちは少し照れていましたが最後にはとても親しんでいました。子どもたちはとても感謝の気持ちを持っていて，さようならのハグをしてありがとうを伝えました。とても心が温まる光景でした。嬉しいことにえりこ先生は１０月にまた来てくれます。勉強頑張ってください，とてもいい先生になると思いますよ！
