On Thursday the children, and their parents, had a Fun Event at the school’s hall on the second floor.

They had the chance to view, and to listen to, a variety of music boxes. Lots of different types of boxes were presented, ranging from small wooden boxes, through hand-plucked units, to larger hand-cranked machines.

Beautiful music could be heard being produced, including: ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’, ‘Aye-aye’, and ‘Totoro’.

The boxes were presented by two ladies who did demonstrations at the front of the audience. Students also had the chance to hold some of the soft animal toys, and listen to the sounds that they produced. Some students really enjoyed holding the animals. They did not want to give back such cute toys!

Near to the end of the event, students took turns to crank the handle of a large paper-fed music box. This machine played the theme music to Totoro. It was difficult to rotate the handle at the correct speed, as well as to maintain a constant rate. Often the music went slow, slow, slow, fast, slow, slower, very slow, faster, slower, slow, fast, etc.!! Even so, all the students had a go, and tried to do their best.

Everyone that attended seemed to have a fun time listening to such fascinating machines!!

（木曜日に保護者の方も参加できるお遊戯室でお楽しみ会がありました。

今回はたくさんの種類のオルゴールを見たり聴いたりすることができました。

いろいろなものがあり、小さな木の箱のつまみのついたものから大きな手で回すものまでありました。

キラキラ星やアイアイ、トトロの曲など、たくさんのきれいな音色が聴こえました。

二人の女性の方にいろいろなオルゴールを紹介していただき、子どもたちは小さなぬいぐるみのオルゴールを抱きしめて音色を聴くこともできました。

とても楽しんで、ぬいぐるみを離したくないというお友達もいました。

終わりの方には一人ひとり大きなハンドルのオルゴールを回すことができました。

トトロの曲などが流れたのですが、同じリズムで回し続けることは子どもたちには少し難しく、メロディーが遅くなったり速くなったりしていました。

それでも全員が経験できて、みんなとても上手にできました。

出席したみんなが素敵なオルゴールに耳を傾けて楽しんでいました。）
