We have been playing with clay in the International class today.

It was the first time for the students to use a clay cutter. This is a plastic tool used to neatly cut up pieces of clay.

It is useful for creating flat surfaces, slices and cuboids.

The children have played with clay many times in the past, but only by using their hands. So, they found that using a tool was new and exciting. They really concentrated on chopping up the clay, and did not want to finish.

They often pretend to do play cooking. Using clay was no different. They chopped up imaginary meat, fruit, cakes, etc.

One completed item was a special birthday cake with candles on the top. I thought it looked like small mushrooms were growing from the cakes, but I was informed that they were CANDLES!

Over the coming weeks they will be able to use some other tools for use with clay.

プラスティックの粘土をきれいに切るために使う粘土ベラを初めて使いました。

フラットな表面を作ったり、薄く切ったりサイコロ状に切ったりするときに便利です。

子どもたちはたくさん粘土あそびをしてきましたが、いつも指を使って遊んでいました。

なので道具を使うことが新鮮で楽しかったようです。

粘土を切っていくことにとても集中していて、終わりたくないと言っていました。

みんなよくおままごとをするのですが、粘土あそびでも同じです。

粘土でお肉や果物、ケーキなどを切っていました。

ひとつ完成したものはキャンドルが上に乗った誕生日ケーキでした。

私はケーキからキノコが育っているのかと思ったのですが、「ろ・う・そ・く！」と教わりました。

今後、粘土用のほかの道具も使っていくようになりますよ。）
