This week in the Bear Class was full of exciting firsts! Here’s a peek into the joyful moments we shared together:

1. First Karate Class!

We kicked off our first Karate Class with excitement, big smiles and lots of energy. We met our Karate instructor, Nakano-sensei. We practice some basic stances and punches. We learned how to respond and most importantly how to listen. We were so happy when our instructor commended us for doing a great job knowing that this was our first time. But the most fun thing of all was the magic trick that she did right before the Karate Class ended- she made a cloth “disappear/fly” into one of our friends’ pocket.

2. First Painting with a Twist!

We explored a magical painting technique this week. We drew whatever we liked on a white sheet of paper using a white crayon- some of us drew random shapes, some did fruits, and cars, some even drew a person. At first, it looked like nothing was there… but then came the paint! As we brushed the paint over the paper, our hidden drawing appeared like magic. The looks of surprise and joy to our friends’ face were priceless.

3. First Picnic-style Lunch!

We were so excited when our teacher announced that this coming May 27th, we are going on a field trip to somewhere fun and exciting- The Kyoto City Zoo! And that we will also be eating our lunch there, she added. So, in order to help get ready for the upcoming trip, we practiced having a picnic-style lunch right in our classroom. We sat on the mat that our teacher prepared, set our own lunch mats and utensils, opened our lunch boxes, and enjoyed eating together just like how we’ll do on our trip. We shared stories and laughed together while eating our lunch- a simple and interesting way that made our lunch time extra special.
