On Friday, the Year 1 and Year 2 classes went to the Kyoto City Zoo. It rained a little, so we were worried if the trip would be cancelled. Luckily for us, the rain stopped in time for us to go–yippee! The classes climbed into two buses, and off we went. The bus ride takes about half-an-hour.

On arrival, we were greeted by the staff and quickly began touring the zoo. First we saw big cats–there was a jaguar, tiger, and lion. The lion was resting near the caged glass so we could take a close look. Next we saw many types of monkeys like gorillas, chimps, lemurs, and rhesus. A few of them had babies with them which were cute to see. The elephants were very popular. A few of us took class photos with them.

The zebras and giraffes were popular too! Besides these animals, there were many, many types of birds. There were owls, peafowls, emus, cranes, and many other exotic birds. My favorite were the flamingos.

Each class will choose one animal to paint. For the Rabbit class, we will paint penguins, and the Bear class chose zebras. There is an art festival coming next month, so we have been busy with many art projects.

Overall the students seemed to have a great time at the zoo. They were giddy and excited. It was fun for us teachers too. We originally planned to eat lunch at the zoo. Because of the weather, we decided to go back and have a picnic in the hall. What a nice day!

（金曜日に満３歳児，年少，年中組が京都動物園に行きました。少し雨が降っていたので遠足が中止になるのではと心配しましたが，ラッキーなことに出発するときには止みました，やったー！２台のバスに乗って出発です。３０分ほどバスに揺られました。

到着してスタッフの方に挨拶をし，すぐに動物園の見学を始めました。まず初めにネコ科の動物，ジャガーにトラ，ライオンを見ました。ライオンはガラスのそばで休んでいたので，近くで見ることができました。次にサルやゴリラ，チンパンジー，キツネザル，アカゲザルなどの類人猿を見ました。赤ちゃんがいる種類もあり，とてもかわいかったです。ゾウはとても人気ですね。ゾウと記念写真を撮ったクラスもありました。

シマウマやキリンも人気ですね！これらの動物のほかに，たくさんの種類の鳥がいました。フクロウやクジャク，エミュー，鶴，そして他のエキゾチックな鳥。私のお気に入りはフラミンゴです。

どのクラスも１つの動物を選び絵を描きます。ラビット組はペンギンを，ベアー組はシマウマを選びました。来月には作品展がありますので，みんな美術活動に一生懸命取り組んでいます。

全体的に子ども達はみんな動物園でとてもいい時間を過ごしたようです。みんな興奮してクラクラしていて，先生達にとっても楽しい遠足でした。お弁当を動物園で食べる予定でしたがお天気の関係で幼稚園に戻り遊戯室でピクニックのように食べることにしました。なんて楽しい１日でしょう！
