We have been playing outdoors in the sandbox.

Today, the children of both Rabbit and Dandelion classes played together in the yard.

The children could use a variety of tools with the sand. Items available included shovels, sand sieves, rollers, bowls, dishes, and tins.

The dry sand is very fine and almost flows like a liquid, so we added water to make it bind together. This enabled the students to dig holes, and to build mounds and castles, as well as making sand balls and pretend puddings.

Some students continually tried to fill sand holes with water, only to find that it quickly drained away. They would fill it up again, and still the water would quickly disappear. They found that it was impossible to make a permanent pool.

The students had taken off their socks to play. I often found that they were asking me to clean their feet from grains of sand that had fallen into their shoes! It must have felt a little itchy!

In the sandbox, it was FUN!!!

（この頃、お砂遊びをしています。

今日は、たんぽぽ組とRabbit組のお友達が一緒に遊びました。

スコップやふるい、ローラー、おわん、お皿、缶などを使いました。

乾いた砂は水のようにさらさらなので、遊びやすいように水をいれたのです。

すると子どもたちは穴を掘ったりお山やお城を作ったり、どろ団子やプリンを作ることができました。

何人かのお友達は穴に水をいっぱい溜めて、すぐにはけてしまう様子をずっと楽しんていましたよ。

どれだけお水をいれてもすぐに消えてしまうので、プールを作っておくことはできないと学んだようでした。

子どもたちはたくさん遊べるように靴下を脱いでいたので、よく先生に「おくつの中の砂をきれいにして～」と言っていました。

たしかに少しこそばゆいでしょうね！
