Today all classes in Ishida Kindergarten were treated to a music concert. Two members from the group called Everly performed at the school. One of the musicians was a violinist and the other was a pianist. They are both brothers. We all lined up and quietly went to the hall. Some parents were also able to attend this concert.

The performance was very engaging and energetic! They began with a famous piece by Mozart called Rondo alla Turca, or “The Turkish March” as its known in English. After that, they played “The Syncopated Clock” by American composer Leroy Anderson. During this song, the violinist played a triangle, wood block, and slide whistle. The students all really enjoyed this part.

They then asked the audience if anyone would like to try playing the violin. A student from the Bear class was chosen and she bravely went up to play. The musician guided her hands and showed her how to hold the instrument. The bow was brought to the strings and a nice tone was made. The student was able to sustain the nice sound with the bow by herself. The pianist played along to the music and it sounded great. I was very impressed, and the student was beaming with happiness.

After that, the whole audience could participate in a few songs. One was set to the song “If You Are Happy and You Know It” in English but sung in Japanese. The students could sing and clap and do actions as they enjoyed the music. It is nice to stand up, sing, dance, and clap along to the beat. Others songs included a medley of famous Disney and Ghibli songs. Overall the concert was a lot of fun and I hope it gives our young students some interest in music.

Speaking of which, the violinist mentioned that he was originally inspired to learn violin after a similar concert was given to him over 30 years ago! I think it is never too early to start music lessons. They mentioned Everly will be performing another concert in Kyoto in July. Joining the two musicians will also be a drummer and guitarist. （今日石田幼稚園のお友達はみんなミニコンサートに招待されました。エバリーというグループから２人のメンバーが幼稚園で演奏してくれました。一人はバイオリニストで，もう一人はピアニストでお二人は兄弟だそうです。みんな静かに列に並びお遊戯室にあがりました。保護者の方もご参加いただけましたよ。

パフォーマンスはとても魅力的でエネルギッシュでした。彼らはモーツァルトの有名曲で英語では「The Turkish March（トルコ行進曲）」として知られている「Rondo alla Turc」という曲からスタートしました。そしてそのあとにルロイ アンダーソンというアメリカの作曲家によるシンコペーテッド・クロックという曲を演奏し，その時にバイオリニストがトライアングルやウッドブロック，スライドホイッスルを演奏しました。子どもたちはみんなこの演奏をとても楽しみました。

そして彼らはお客さんにバイオリンを演奏してみたい人はいないかと聞き，ベアー組のお友達が選ばれると彼女はしっかりと前に出ました。そしてバイオリニストの方が彼女の手をもちどのように楽器を持つか見せました。弓は弦にあてられきれいな音色が生まれました。その園児は自分で弓を弾き続けることができ，ピアニストがそれに合わせて演奏しました。とても素敵な演奏でした。私はとても感激し，子どもたちは幸せそうにキラキラしていました。

そのあとお客さんはいくつかの演奏を楽しみました。一つは英語では「If You Are Happy and You Know It(幸せなら手をたたこう)」という歌を日本語で歌い，子どもたちは音楽に合わせて歌ったり手を叩いたりいろいろなアクションをすることができました。立って歌ったり踊ったり手拍子でリズムに合わせることは楽しかったです。その他の曲は有名なディズニーのメドレーやジブリの曲でコンサートの間とても楽しく，子どもたちが音楽に興味をもってくれたらいいなと思いました。

そういえば，バイオリニストの方は３０年前に保育園で同じようなコンサートがあり，そこから習いたくなったと言っていました。私は，音楽を始めるのに早すぎることはないと思います。エバリーさんは７月に京都でコンサートを開くと言っていました。さらにドラムとギターのメンバーが加わるそうです。もし可能ならこのミュージシャンを応援してください。ラビット組を代表して…エバリーさん！とても素敵なコンサートをありがとうございました！
