Christmas will soon be here.

Probably everyone has already seen many decorations being displayed in shops, public spaces and on private houses. At Ishida we have decorations in our central waiting area, as well as a Christmas tree which is located near to the main door. Do you have a Christmas tree and decorations at your house? Such decorations provide a pleasant atmosphere at this time of year. I really enjoy to see them!

There are many famous things that are associated with Christmas: Christmas trees decorated with baubles, ornaments, tinsel, and topped with a sparkly star. Eating turkey and Christmas pudding. Candy canes, holly, wreaths, sleighs, bells, snowy weather, and chimneys, are also typical features. Christmas characters include: reindeer, snowmen, elves, angels, and, of course, Santa Claus!

Santa is now very busy making presents with his elves in the North Pole. Most children are so excited to wait for the presents that he will deliver to their houses.

It is said that Santa travels on his sleigh pulled by reindeer, and goes down chimneys to deliver the presents. In England most houses have chimneys. Yet, in Japan, only a few houses have them. When I tell the children that Santa will come down the chimney, many worry that they don’t have a chimney at their house. In such cases, I explain that he will instead use a window!!

Ishida students have been practicing hard for the Christmas party. Each class will perform a special song on the stage. The party will take place on Saturday, 15th December. If we are lucky, Santa might make an appearance on this day!

Christmas Day is always celebrated on 25th December. This year it will fall on a Tuesday.

おそらくすでにお家や公共の場所、お店などでたくさんのデコレーションが飾られているのを見ているでしょうね。

石田幼稚園では正面ドアの近くにクリスマスツリーがあるように、中央のあそび場がたくさんの飾りで飾られています。

みなさんはお家にクリスマスツリーや飾りがありますか？

これらの飾りは１年のこの時期をかけがえのない雰囲気にしてくれますね。私はとても楽しんでいます。

 

クリスマスに関連した有名なものはたくさんありますね。

クリスマスツリーはたくさんのボールやオーナメント、モールで飾られ、一番上にはキラキラした星があって。

七面鳥やクリスマスプディングを食べて。キャンディーケイン（紅白のステッキ）や柊、リース、ソリ、ベル、雪、煙突なども典型的な特徴としてありますね。さらにはトナカイや雪だるま、小人、天使、もちろんサンタクロースもクリスマスのキャラクターです。

サンタさんは今、北極で小人たちとプレゼントの用意に大忙しです。

ほとんどの子どもたちはお家に届くであろうプレゼントを心待ちにしています。

サンタさんはトナカイにソリを引かれ、煙突からお家に入ってくると言われています。

イギリスではほとんどのお家に煙突があります。

しかし日本ではあまり見ませんね。子どもたちにサンタさんは煙突から入ってくるんだよと話をするとみんな自分の家には煙突がないと心配します。そういう時は、サンタさんは代わりに窓から入ってくるんじゃないかなと話しています。

石田幼稚園の子どもたちはクリスマス会に向けて一生懸命練習をしています。

どのクラスも舞台の上で特別な発表をします。クリスマス会は１５日土曜日に予定されていて、もしラッキーだったらサンタさんが現れるかも…？
