Year 2 students have been making flour clay, and then using the clay to make models of lunchboxes.

On Tuesday, the Bear and the Momo classes all assembled at the Momo classroom up on the second floor. The children were divided into three groups of five students. Each group had their own plastic sheet that was taped to the floor. After removing their shoes and socks, the children could begin to mix the ingredients together. Flour was placed into bowls, with a little salt added. The children then had some oil placed onto the palms of their hands. This was to prevent the flour from sticking to their hands and fingers. Water was poured onto the powder, and the mixing began. Children sat around their bowls, and mixed the ingredients together with their fingers.

When the contents started to form clay, paint was added to the bowls. Each group used a different colour of paint: red, yellow, and green. These colours were chosen as they could easily be used to represent different foodstuffs that could be placed into the pretend lunchboxes. The ingredients were mixed and kneaded further until a springy, coloured clay had formed. They could then enjoy to use their feet to trample the clay flat, and enjoy the feeling of it on the soles of their feet.

On Wednesday, the students used the flour clay to produce a Japanese-style lunchbox. Each child received blocks of red, yellow, and green clay. They then shaped them into relevant food items, such as: rice-balls, tomatoes, broccoli, lettuces, sausages, eggs-rolls, strawberries…. and other items. The finished model food was then placed on small food trays that were then taken home.

It was fun for the children to learn how to produce flour clay, and they really showed lots of creative ideas in producing foodstuff for their lunchboxes.

The lunchboxes looked almost good enough to eat!!

（年中組さんは小麦粉粘土をつくり，そして，小麦粉粘土を使ってお弁当作りを行いました。

火曜日，ベアー組さんともも組さんは，もも組さんのお部屋で一緒に活動を行いました。子どもたちは５人ずつの３グループに分かれました。各グループ，床に貼られたビニールシートが用意されていました。靴と靴下を脱いだ後，子どもたちは材料を混ぜました。ボウルの中に，小麦粉と少しの塩を加えます。子どもたちの手には，油を少し付けました。これは，子どもたちの手や指に小麦粉がはりつかないようにする為です。水も少し加えて，いよいよ混ぜ始めました。子どもたちはボウルの周りに座り，指で混ぜ合わせました。

粘土のようになってくると，ボウルに絵の具を加えました。赤，黄色，緑，とそれぞれのグループで異なる色を使用しました。これらの色は，お弁当を作る際に使用しやすい色，ということで選ばれました。材料は粘土に色がしっかりついて形になるまで混ぜたりこねたりしました。粘土を平らにするために，子どもたちは足も使い，感触を楽しめたようでした。

水曜日，子どもたちは小麦粉粘土を使って日本式のお弁当を作りました。子どもたちは，赤，黄色，緑の粘土を受け取り，その粘土で，おにぎり，トマト，ブロッコリー，レタス，ソーセージ，卵焼き，いちご……などの食べ物の形に仕上げていきました。そして，小さいトレイの上に置き，お家に持って帰りました。

小麦粉粘土を作っていくことは子どもたちにとって，とても楽しかったです。彼らは，お弁当を作るときに本当にたくさんのアイデアを示して出してくれました。

本当に食べられそうなお弁当でしたよ！！
